COVID-19

The health of our residents is our top priority at Highwood and we want to ensure that we all remain as safe as possible from the risks of COVID-19. We continue to follow guidance and legislation as issued by the Government and key sector bodies and we are committed to keeping our residents, their families, and our staff well-informed at all times.

Despite the difficulties we’ve faced as a result of COVID-19, we have worked hard to implement robust policies and procedures that provide a level of reassurance for all residents and visitors to the home.

Our COVID-19 Approach

Care homes in England can make risk-based decisions as to whether face masks are required to be worn. Following a risk assessment, our care home has made the decision to remove the universal wearing of masks. It is a personal choice whether visitors still wish to wear a mask and people receiving care can ask staff to wear face masks; our staff will continue to work in whichever way makes our residents most comfortable.

We continue to no longer have restrictions as to the number of visits per resident though we ask that you make arrangements in advance of your visit to ensure safe visiting practices can be maintained.

At any time, the decision to not wear face masks can be changed as determined by the Home Manager, company, local or national healthcare agencies. COVID-19 regulations and guidance from the Government, National, and Local Healthcare Agencies may also change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.

Keeping Everybody Safe

Within our care home, we also have PPE and sanitation products for everyone to use to help reduce any risk of contamination.

Highwood Care Home understands the importance of staying compliant with official advice and guidance provided by the Government, the Department of Health, and the local NHS Trust. All of our staff follow the infection prevention and control measures we have put in place as well as encourage everyone in our home to keep their vaccinations updated. If cases do occur within our home, we have an effective system for recording cases and taking appropriate action to keep them as contained as possible.

Staying Connected With Loved Ones

At Highwood Care Home we are dedicated to making sure that our residents with our home stay in touch regularly with their family and friends. We support and encourage everyone to be able to leave our care home for day trips and overnight stays. To make this happen safely, we make sure we carry out risk assessments which include the use of respiratory screening questions on their return. At present, there is no requirement for testing and isolation for residents who temporarily leave the home but to ensure everyone’s safety we do encourage residents to be vaccinated for day trips and overnight stays.

If isolation within the home is required, we are able to provide our residents with devices to speak to their loved ones via video calls. We know staying connected will help with their mental well-being and do help their physical we encourage them to join in the activities that our coordinators put on daily.
