Alongside tailored support, residents can enjoy a varied programme of in-home activities, as well as hairdressing and Wi-Fi access, creating opportunities for connection, enjoyment and familiar routines within a caring community.

While there is no cure for dementia, we focus on maximising quality of life. We utilise memory-focused activities, sensory therapies, and techniques specifically designed to engage those with dementia and enhance their overall well-being.

Our dementia care unit features secure spaces for those prone to wandering, offering peace of mind for families. Our layout, lighting, and decor aim to reduce confusion and agitation and promote a sense of calmness.

At our care home in Bideford, we offer support groups, educational resources, and open communication to help families cope with the journey and make informed care decisions for their loved ones. As well as this, we have regular visits from the dementia bus which can help both our team and loved ones gain a better understanding of what providing dementia care entails.

Before a resident moves in with us, we work with our residents and their loved ones to understand their routines, interests and preferences, which we then incorporate into their care plans. We adopt a person-centred approach to care and want to help residents maintain their independence and dignity whilst making sure they know we are here to support them at all times.

Our dementia care team completes regular training to ensure they have a broad range of understanding relevant to the many stages of the dementia journey. From supporting residents with activities and therapies to helping them with communication and personal care, our teams have the experience and knowledge to provide effective care in a dementia-friendly environment.

We provide an all-inclusive activities programme for all, which includes both group and 1:1 activities and therapies. For example, we regularly hold arts & crafts sessions, music therapy, reminiscence activities and more. Meaningful activities and therapies are designed to help stimulate the physical, cognitive and social well-being of our residents, including those with dementia.

At Highwood Care Home, we require a 28-day notice period for residents receiving any of our long-term care types and are looking to move out. Our compassionate team are on hand around the clock to support you with your moving transition and answer any further questions you have.
