Celebrating Two Special Birthdays at Highwood!
On 10th June, Highwood was alive with colour, music and joyful connection as we celebrated two wonderful milestones, including a much-loved resident ambassador’s birthday and one year since our founding team first came together. It was a day filled with warmth, laughter and a deep sense of belonging that reminded us just how far we have come.
Despite the rather traditional British summer rain, spirits were high as we brought the beach indoors and celebrated as usual. Sand buckets, parasols and bunting transformed our lounge into a seaside-inspired haven and set the scene for an indoor BBQ that was full of flavour and fun.
Residents gathered with staff to enjoy freshly grilled food, served alongside colourful and refreshing mocktails. There was a lovely, sociable buzz as residents clinked glasses and shared stories of family visits to the beach.
The celebration also honoured our resident ambassador as her birthday fell on the same day. She is a hugely valued part of life in the home, known for her warmth, her friendly chats with new residents and her tireless support for others. She was treated to a birthday cake in her favourite flavour, heartfelt cards and a rendition of 'happy birthday' that could be heard from every corner of the building.
One of the highlights of the day came in the form of a high-energy Zumba session. We had a brilliant instructor and themed music playing, with residents and staff joining in at their own pace. From seated steps and hand movements to more upbeat dancing from those who were able, the session brought an infectious energy that carried on long after the session had finished. The activity got everyone moving, lifted moods and encouraged connection, laughter and a sense of shared achievement.
While the birthday and beach theme made the day vibrant and memorable, it was also a moment to look back with pride. A year ago, our very first team members came together, united by a shared goal of creating a home filled with kindness, dignity and personalised care. Since then, we’ve built a strong, supportive community where staff, residents and families all play an important role.
As we step into our second year, we are more committed than ever to making every day meaningful. With a busy calendar of events, we’re already planning more opportunities for residents and their loved ones to come together, make memories and celebrate life in all its richness.
