Embracing Community With Our First Open Day
Highwood Care Home was filled with nostalgia, music, and laughter as we opened our doors for our first open day of 2025, welcoming over 50 people in the local community to experience life at our home. The event took on a lively 1950s theme, with residents, staff, and visitors all-embracing the spirit of the era. From rock ‘n’ roll tunes to vintage-inspired décor, the day was a wonderful celebration of the past while showcasing the warmth and vibrancy of life at Highwood.
Residents played a key role in bringing the theme to life, helping to decorate the home with retro-inspired touches, including handmade balloon arches and 1950s-style bunting. Many of our team members fully embraced the theme, dressing in polka dots, swing skirts, and classic vintage looks, adding to the fun and immersive atmosphere.
The highlight of the afternoon was a special performance from the talented Amber Louise, who treated us to a selection of well-loved songs from the 1950s. Residents and guests enjoyed reminiscing about their younger years, sharing stories about fashion, music, and memorable moments from the era. It was truly heartwarming to see so many smiles, as well as a few impromptu dance moves from both residents and staff!
The purpose of our event was not only to provide a fun and engaging experience for our residents but also to welcome members of the local community to Highwood. Open days like this offer families and visitors the opportunity to see first-hand our luxury facilities and the warm and supportive environment we provide, while also giving residents the chance to socialise and connect with new people. From the planning and decorating to dressing up and joining in the fun, the whole team worked together to make the day special for everyone involved. The enthusiasm and creativity shown by our residents made the day a huge success, and we are so proud of the wonderful energy that filled our home.
