‘Younger Spirits in the Elder Person’: Getting in Front of the Camera!
Our residents recently enjoyed a delightful day of creativity and connection as we welcomed local photographer Tanya Ward into our care home in Bideford. This collaboration was part of Tanya’s professional portfolio project titled "Young Spirits in the Elder Person," which celebrates the vibrant stories and personalities of older individuals through natural and expressive photography.
The residents were extremely enthusiastic about the opportunity to take part in the photo shoot, with each portrait aiming to capture the unique essence of their lives and cherished memories. From candid smiles to quiet moments of reflection, the session brought to life the incredible stories and experiences that have shaped them.
Tanya took a variety of images of our residents throughout their daily lives whether they were reading a book, applying their favourite lipstick, enjoying a hot drink, sitting in one of our lounges for a chat or simply having a glass of wine with their meal, she was able to capture it all!
Our photoshoot afternoon allowed us to build meaningful partnerships within our local community while creating treasured keepsakes for residents and their families. Many participants spoke fondly about the experience, expressing how much they enjoyed sharing their stories and revisiting special moments from their past.
These photos not only celebrate our residents and what they enjoy doing on a daily basis at Highwood Care Home but also remind us all of the importance of cherishing every moment and memory. We are proud to provide residents with an environment where they can continue to live their lives how they choose.
