We have many passions here at Highwood Care Home, one of those being that our residents get the most out of each and every day. We encourage our residents to do whatever brings them joy and happiness, whether that’s exploring our gardens, socialising with friends and family members or heading out into the local town.

We believe it’s important to provide our residents with a varied wellbeing programme and our activity coordinators take great consideration into planning a variety of fun, new and engaging activities for our residents to take part in. Although we have our own transport to take our residents in, if family or friends want to join in, there are some great public transport options nearby.

Encouraging Excitement and Enthusiasm

Within our care home there is never a dull moment and we think that no two days should be the same as we want nothing more than to make this into a reality for our residents and anyone else who spends their day with us too. We strive to ensure our residents take ownership of their lives and do what makes them happy! Therefore, many of the events on our programme are led by our residents and they are frequently co-organised by both the residents and the activity coordinators.

When a resident moves into Highwood Care Home, we want to ensure their life doesn’t have a significant shift, we want our residents to be able to live their lives how they normally do and all of our activities have been structured in a way to ensure it doesn’t get in the way of that.

All of our activities are an option and they’re there to be enjoyed. As residents are encouraged to get involved, they don’t have to, if they’d rather spend their time doing something else that makes them happy, they’re more than welcome to.

Alongside regular outings and events, all of our activities are scheduled on a daily basis, making sure that our residents and their loves ones never have a repetitive day. We amend our schedule as often as possible so that everyone in our community can look forward to something new and exciting.

All activities vary, from planned day trips which include shopping and dining to activities that don’t require you to leave the comfort of your own home.

There really is something for everyone here at Highwood Care Home; we have a range of magazines, books and craft supplies. From quizzes to jigsaws to engaging and sociable wine and cheese evenings, coffee mornings and afternoon tea.

It’s important to organise as many events and activities as possible for our residents as we don’t believe that a change of place equates to a change of heart and we understand that it’s not easy for residents to make a move into a new home, therefore we want to remove as much stress from our residents as we can.

If we can provide a minute of stability within our resident’s busy lives then we have made a huge step forward. Additionally, we don’t want our residents to think they can’t continue doing what they love to do most, which is why the range of activities vary so much.
