Highwood Care Home in Bideford has officially opened its new 19 bedroom Torridge community, providing additional nursing care in a warm, welcoming environment with views across the River Torridge and towards Bideford Bridge.
The new community officially opened in early October, marking an important milestone for Highwood Care Home and increasing the availability of nursing care for people in the local area.
Designed to feel homely, comfortable and spacious, the Torridge community provides a dedicated environment for residents requiring nursing care. Its outlook across the surrounding area, including the River Torridge and Bideford Bridge, is a particularly special feature, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy the local scenery from within the home.
Residents benefit from 24-hour care and support tailored to their individual needs, with the aim of helping them feel comfortable, supported and settled in their surroundings.

A Warm Welcome for the First Residents
Highwood Care Home has already welcomed its first residents into the Torridge community, which continues to grow following its opening.
Early feedback has been positive, with residents commenting on the atmosphere, comfort and views. Some respite residents have enjoyed their stays so much that they have asked to return, with some specifically requesting rooms overlooking the River Torridge.
The feedback reflects the importance of creating an environment where residents can feel at home, enjoy their surroundings and receive the support they need.
A Team Effort Behind the Opening
Opening the new community has involved colleagues from across Highwood Care Home, with staff working together to prepare the environment, put processes in place and ensure residents received a warm welcome from day one.
A key achievement was the successful recruitment of additional nursing and care staff to support the new community and its residents.
Michelle Balsdon - Home Manager said:
“I am incredibly proud to have been part of the opening of the Torridge community at Highwood Care Home. This has been a significant achievement for the whole team and I would like to thank every member of staff for their dedication, hard work and commitment throughout the process. We are excited to see the positive difference it will make to residents and their families both now and in the future."

Expanding Nursing Care in the Bideford Community
The opening of the Torridge community increases the availability of nursing care in Bideford, providing an additional option for local people and helping to meet the need for nursing support within the community.
For residents and their families, choosing a care home is an important decision. Having access to a welcoming environment, dedicated nursing support and a team committed to individual care can make a real difference when considering the next stage of care.
With its first residents now settled in and the community continuing to grow, Highwood Care Home looks forward to building on this milestone and supporting more people in the local area.
